1. “Dental Humanitarian Expeditions” - Looking for a bit of adventure to reinvigorate your professional career? Maybe a chance to see new places and build up some good karma at the same time? You might consider joining a dental/medical humanitarian group that travels to third-world countries, providing care to the indigenous – and often indigent – population.
Debby Kurtz-Weidinger, RDH, M.Ed, will provide a presentation on her dental/medical humanitarian expeditions to Peru , Ecuador , the Galapagos Islands and her most recent trip to Vietnam over the past three years. She will describe how you can find ongoing expeditions to many countries, as well as how to prepare yourself for working in a third-world country. The payoff is a life-altering experience – a newfound appreciation of radically different cultures, a sense of adventure fulfilled, and the knowledge that you’ve made some difficult lives a little easier.

2. “The Dental Hygienists’ Role in Detecting Failing Dental Implants” – Dental implants have revolutionized tooth replacement over the last fifty years but they are not problem-free. This presentation will focus on implant maintenance by the dental hygienist and will explain what causes implants to start down the path to failure.
Laurence S. Ambrose, D.D.S., M.S., is well known in the dental hygiene community as a frequent and highly-regarded guest lecturer to dental hygiene students as well as to practicing hygienists via continuing education presentations. Dr. Ambrose is a board certified periodontist and full-time staff member at the VA Medical Center in Phoenix , Arizona , and he is currently serving the second year of his term as President of the Arizona Society of Periodontists.
